South Bank - BoathousesModest vessels for life on the water
The Boathouses for our South Bank project have been clustered in banks of a maximum of ten properties. This was to forge a balance between a desire to create a village-like atmosphere around a shared public park and pool, whilst providing framed views out to the distant landscape. This was achieved by inserting small ‘pocket parks’ between each bank of terraces, each with access to the water.
The elevations of the Boathouses are not monotonous, but have variety and the individual elevations for each home are reflective of customer options. These have been captured by a set of architectural rules, to allow a balance between consistency and variation. Recesses have been created in the facades to create a play of light and shade, and timber is included for enhanced material variety and to add warmth.
The rear elevations cascade to the water's edge with terraces to enjoy long distance views, and some homes benefit from an individual boat dock. We consider these Boathouses to be the ultimate 'water village'. They will provide the perfect, modest vessel for life on the water.
