The raised, lightweight living volume captures breezes and views of both the North Shore and reef.

This home is located in Thompson Cove on Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands. ‘The Cove’ is a quiet residential area formed around a water inlet that is a nature and bird reserve. The calm waters are a peaceful haven in the area, whilst the home benefits from direct boat access to the North Shore. The design is shaped by our clients' specific requirement of providing secure storage for a 30’ boat. This, combined with our desire to ensure good passage of natural breezes through the home and optimised sea views, led us to design an ‘upside-down’ home - where the primary living spaces are raised to level 2.

The home is separated into two parts with the boat storage containing guest accommodation above being connected to the main house's living and master bedrooms by a bridge. Below the main living and masters are secondary bedrooms and an covered pool lounge. Deep overhangs and operable shutters shade the building throughout. The upper floor interiors all occupy vaulted spaces under a dutch-gable roof. The character of the home is defined by its wooden lightweight upper, and grounded masonry base, and the cantilevered balconies and oversailing roof enable the volume to be read as a single storey structure, floating above the verdant, native landscape.
